World’s first Portable Smart Rising Seat, SitnStand, delivers step-change in UK personal mobility
Representing a pioneering breakthrough in transportable assistive technology, SitnStand is the first ever Portable Smart Rising Seat that gives elderly and disabled individuals real independence.
When living with restricted mobility or a health condition, the process of sitting and standing in a controlled and safe manner can be a challenge. Many people rely on the manual assistance of relatives, friends and carers to get in and out of a chair. This compromises freedom in many respects both at home and away – resulting in a loss of inclusion, confidence and self-esteem. SitnStand now provides a remarkably simple, yet revolutionary solution that can also be transported – an innovation that has never been possible before. This new concept has been endorsed by respected Occupational Therapist, Kate Sheehan, as it is a lightweight, portable device that can be used with any type of chair, in any situation and in any environment.
For vulnerable individuals who have to stand or sit without help, the risk of falls and injury continues to increase. It represents a significant problem in the UK. According to the NHS, around one in three adults over 65 who live at home will have at least one fall a year, about half of these will have more frequent falls. Falls are the most common cause of injury related deaths in people over the age of 75. Specifically related to sitting and standing, the Research Institute Amsterdam completed a study in a Bavarian nursing home which concluded that 41% of falls were due to unsuccessful chair transfers. This risk affects the ability for people to remain in the community or achieve discharge from care. Ultimately falls are adding to the intense pressure on both NHS and social care funding and represent a growing problem as the population ages.
SitnStand delivers unique features that do not compromise the experience of sitting in a chair, anywhere.
By combining advanced technology, ergonomic mechanisms and air inflation, this quiet and discreet product now opens up multiple opportunities for people of all ages. Its stable platform, which provides four different heights, is suitable for people with symptoms such as muscle weakness, balance problems, visual impairment and dizziness. Users with conditions such as Parkinson’s, Multiple Sclerosis, Arthritis and with replacement joints can all benefit from safer, more confident movement in and out of a chair. Its battery powered functionality is simple to operate with a two-button controller and the fabric cushion section is removable and washable. Diligently designed and manufactured by Life Assistant Limited, SitnStand can be transported in a manageable carry case and delivers dependable performance for peace of mind.
SitnStand is already providing significant lifestyle and well-being benefits to Colin and Norma in Oxfordshire. Colin says: “SitnStand has genuinely changed our lives. Norma now has her independence back, even in restaurants and hotels. We’ve already planned to go on a cruise now we have a SitnStand, she loves it.”
SitnStand is the culmination of 10 years of committed development in Israel. Co-founder Gal was inspired by personal experience of restricted mobility with his late father and the many requests received from friends. His commitment to developing a unique solution to a global problem has now been solely launched in the UK as he explains: “We selected the UK for the worldwide introduction of SitnStand as it is one of the most established mobility markets. Culturally in society there is a strong desire to promote equality despite challenges within public funds and personal budgets. This attitude fit perfectly with the SitnStand idea as it provides a cost-effective solution for independence in any location and re-enablement back into the community.”
Gal continues: “Traditionally, electrically operated rise and recline chairs have been chosen to assist with sitting and standing. Nevetheless, they can prove costly and as an extra piece of furniture, only offer a permanent product that is not moveable. SitnStand offers an alternative or complementary choice. Being able to achieve safe standing and sitting whilst visiting family, friends, restaurants, theatres or whilst travelling is a completely new concept. From first-hand experience, I know the life-changing and priceless value that can be gained from independent standing.”
Kate Sheehan, Occupational Therapist and Director of The OT Service, concludes: “SitnStand has inspired Occupational Therapists, as its innovation and design has led to a product that fits well with the ethos of Occupational Therapy. Due to its portability, it opens up a whole world of activities that clients want to do in their home, community and whilst travelling, therefore promoting health and wellbeing.”
SitnStand is available through selected dealers in the UK which can be found at: www.sitnstand.com
