Losing the ability to stand up may lead to avoidance of moving around, further inactivity and longer sitting. Recent studies have suggested that breaking up prolonged sitting may improve glucose metabolism and could represent an important public health and clinical intervention strategy for reducing cardiovascular risk [8–11] and mortality , which underscores the importance of maintaining the ability to stand up from a sitting position.
